ilderness Works provides needy kids a place to find caring adults and fun activities that teach and reach.

Wilderness Works' mission is to empower and enrich disadvantaged and at-risk children living in urban Atlanta with year-round experiential education, recreation and outdoor adventure.

Established in Atlanta, Georgia Wilderness Works is a youth development agency serving homeless and disadvantaged children living primarily in Dekalb and Fulton counties.

Wilderness Works is based at City Camp just north of Zoo Atlanta.  From here Wilderness Works provides needy Atlanta children mentoring, experiential education and enrichment programs. Each year culminates in memorable experiences at Camp Evergreen at Lake Burton and Camp Bob in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Wilderness Works children take swimming lessons monthly at Emory University. Bicycling is a regular activity.

Tutoring for academic reinforcement is provided individually.

Wilderness Works children also enjoy year round field trips to area venues including the Atlanta Zoo, Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and Stone Mountain. Other fun activities include bowling, roller skating and attendance at sporting events.

Access to most activities including summer camp is ultimately earned. Eligibility hinges on accomplishments valued in a point system. Motivated children gain required points by performing senior citizen visitation and food bank service projects, attendance in school, participation in programming, and more.

Wilderness Works is a Hands On Atlanta partner agency and a member of the National Mentoring Partnership.

I am learning all kinds of swimming strokes in the swimming program and I am not afraid anymore in the water.

I won the point contest in 2006 and came in second in 2007. I am going to win it this year.

I have been on trips to four states with Wilderness Works.

Wilderness Works keeps me having a fun activity almost every weekend.

I can’t wait for summer camp again this year! This will be my fifth summer going to camp. Each year I learn new things.

I canoed for four days and nights along a mountain river last summer.

Camp Evergreen is a place where I really let go and connect with nature.

My favorite part of Wilderness Works is the volunteers and overnights at City Camp and the fun we have. I look forward to the weekends all week long.

My mentor spends time with me and helps me with my homework. My grades at school are better and I really feel better about myself.
