The Power of Wilderness Works

Wilderness Works believes that experiences found in nature benefit children on many levels, and serve as an antidote to indoor activities, usually dominated by screens.

The superior impact found in nature based youth programs is powerfully highlighted in the insightful 2025 YMCA – USA research study, The Nature of the Outdoors, funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

From the introduction to the report:

Outdoor group activities uniquely promote Skills for Thriving—often called 21st century skills, soft skills, thriving indicators, socio-emotional skills.

Wilderness Works continues to help Atlanta’s young people to build the skills they need to thrive in school, work and life with life changing nature based experiences. We continue because of sustaining and caring supporters.

We invite you to review the YMCA’s revealing report here.  Visit the Annie E.
