Literacy Adventure Mentoring Project (LAMP)

As chiefly an academic support, Literacy Adventure Mentoring Project is perhaps the most important element in the mix of resources Wilderness Works has for children. LAMP is driven by mentoring. LAMP relies on caring mentors with a gift for giving encouragement and leading reorientation.

LAMP involves one-on-one relationship and academic support for children deprived of such support or guidance outside of school.

LAMP is helping to break the cycle of low self-worth found in impoverished communities. LAMP is about children realizing personal potential.

Many LAMP mentors find Wilderness Works through the National Mentoring Partnership and Essence Cares. Mentors also originate as Hands On Atlanta volunteers.

With individual attention LAMP provides children with academic plans targeted toward their needs, and activities designed to cultivate their interests. A basic goal with LAMP is building confidence in a child. The result is a child being more receptive in school with greater academic retention.

Wilderness Works has a growing library of books including Caldecott Medal, Coretta Scott King Award, Newbery Medal, and Theodore Suess Geisel Award books. The library needs books in duplicate and triplicate for reading aloud. Contact us to donate books or other items.
